<dc:title>Cosmo Gordon to James Beattie from Edinburgh</dc:title>
<dc:description>Obstinacy of Innes in refusing to pay the whole of bursar's salary. When courts meets in June, Gordon will try to establish nature and terms of foundation. Approves James Hay Beattie pal, and Beattie's applying for approval of colleagues. But appointment being in gift of crown, Beattie should apply by private interest. Even if induction is delayed, appoinment should be privately secured through a minister. Beattie's poor health may give others sanguine expectations. Advises him to enlist Duchess of Gordonto speak to Dundas. Early application very desirable. Literary friends approve Beattie's Aeneid paper; to be read at next meeting</dc:description>
