<dc:title>To Lady Mayne (copy letter), referring to the Royal subscription and the dispute with Hume</dc:title>
<dc:description>Copy letter, 8 pages, incomplete. Asks Lady Mayne to thank Dr Majendie for his part in the matter of the Royal subscription granted to Beattie: 'The sentiments, which his Royal Mistress has been pleased to express in regard to my affairs, do me the greatest honour; and I should be as unworthy of them as Mr Hume would wish to represent me, if they did not give me the greatest pleasure.' Discusses the Queen's response and the matter of the subscription, and writes at length on the responses of Hume and his friends to the Essay on Truth.</dc:description>
