  <dc:title>To Elizabeth Montagu from Aberdeen</dc:title>
<dc:description>Thanks for letter of 23 April. In Edinburgh was only able to give second volume of Elements to printer. Mrs Montagu's watch will be matter of great triumph to Montagu. Beattie has taken Montagu's companion - James Hutcheon (Marischal 1788-92) son of John Hutcheon, minister at Fetteresso - into the family. Affairs in France even worse than has been told publicly. Beattie hopes Britain will learn from this, but finds spirit of turbulence. Beattie impressed with Chevalier's quarto 'A description of the Plain of Troy'. It throws much light on Homer. </dc:description>
