  <dc:description>Wrote to the Duchess on 4th May to say College on advice of Baron Gordon wanted James Hay Beattie appointed Beattie's assistant and successor. Beattie did not intend to leave Aberdeen till after settled, but health and other circumstances required him to set out last week for London. Now in Edinburgh. Will not reach London till 4 or 5 July. Hopes to pay respects to Duchess in Downing Street. Asks her to remind Dundas of James Hay Beattie's affair, and to ask him to bring it to a conclusion soon. College has asked Lord Bute to concur.</dc:description>
