To the Duchess of Gordon, from Aberdeen Mrs Beattie's bad health and his illness prevent them from accepting the Duchess' invitation to Gordon Castle. He refers to a letter who he had apparently written to Mr Ross contradicting rumors that were false and malicious. Hi did not know that Ross would show the letter to the Duchess.
