ActivityClement King Shorter was born in 1857, and became a civil servant in the Exchequer and Audit Department from 1877 to 1890. From 1890 to 1900 he was editor of the group of illustrated newspapers with included the London Illustrated News, the Tatler and the Sketch. J.M. Bulloch, the theatre critic and historian, was his assistant. He wrote articles on the Brontes, on Napoleon and others. In 1900 he founded the Sphere, which he edited until his death in 1926.
