ActivityHenry Robert Oswald (1790 - 1862), son of Walter Oswald and Elizabeth Henderson Oswald, was a surgeon and physician in Edinburgh and Douglas, Isle of Man, where he was Surgeon to the Household of the Duke of Atholl, Governor General of the island. He was apprenticed from 1807 to 1810 to the firm of Bell, Wardrop, Russell and Co., apothecaries and surgeons in Edinburgh. His son, also Henry Robert (1827 - 1892) was an assistant surgeon in the service of the East India Company, who rose to the position of Surgeon-General of Burma, 1876 - 1879, and briefly of India, 1879. He retired to Edinburgh with his family in 1881.
