ActivityPhoebe Anna Moss was born in Dublin in 1852. There she met and married Ramsay Traquair and moved with him to Edinburgh. She was a prolific artist in many media, notably embroidery and painting. Several public buildings in Edinburgh, mostly churches, contain examples of her murals, but she was also successful in bookbinding and illustrating and in enamelling, often choosing religious and spiritual themes. She was the first woman member of the Royal Scottish Academy, and died in Edinburgh in 1936.
