ActivityThe St Andrew Society, Edinburgh, was probably founded in 1906 and was fully operational in the following year, from which dates the first volume of its journal, 'Scotia'. The principal aims of the Society were, and remain to promote the identity and interests of Scotland and, in particular, to celebrate St Andrew's Day (30 November) as a national day, to encourage the study of Scottish history, languages and literature, to uphold the rights and privileges (for example, in heraldic matters) of the ancient Kingdom of Scotland held to be secured by the Union legislation and to affiliate with other Scottish societies at home and overseas.
