ActivityThe National Union of Sheet Metal Workers and Braziers was established by the amalgamation of a large number of local societies which had previously formed the National Amalgamated Association of Tin-Plate Workers of Great Britain. In 1959 the union merged with the National Society of Coppersmiths, Braziers and Metalworkers of Great Britain and Ireland to form the National Union of Sheet Metal Workers and Coppersmiths. In 1967 the Heating and Domestic Engineers' Union merged with the union and the National Union of Sheet Metal Workers, Coppersmiths, Heating and Domestic Engineers was formed. The Birmingham and Midland Sheet Metal Workers' Society merged with the NUSMWCHDE in 1973. In 1983 the union became part of the Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers (Technical, Administrative and Supervisory Section).
