ActivityFrancis M Collinson (1898-1985), composer and researcher into Scottish folk-music, was educated at Edinburgh University, where he was musical director of student concerts and revues. He worked in London theatres in the 1920s and 1930s. Collinson published works on Scottish traditional music, composed and arranged folk-music, and did work for the School of Scottish Studies, Edinburgh University. He presented radio broadcasts on British folk-songs during the 1940s and 1950s. His father, Dr Thomas Henry Collinson, was the organist and choirmaster of St Mary's Cathedral, Edinburgh, 1878-1928, and was the articled pupil of Dr Philip Armes, organist of Durham Cathedral, 1871-1875.
