ActivityThe Haig Ferguson Memorial Home, Edinburgh, was the successor of St Luke's Home, established at 19 Graham Street in 1899 to provide accommodation for unmarried women expecting their first baby. It became the Lauriston Home on its transferral to 118 Lauriston Place in 1905, and retained the name as it moved to 3 Lauriston Park (1916), and finally to 4 Lauriston Park (1925). A subsidiary Mother and Infant Home was established at 5 Admiral Terrace (1912-18) and 27 Drummond Place (1918-?19). In 1934 a memorial endowment fund was raised in the name of the obstetrician Dr James Haig Ferguson (1862-1934), the former chairman and a founder of the Lauriston Home, which was re-named in his memory. The house ceased to operate as a Home in March 1974, although it continued for some time in charitable use. By 2000 the building had been converted to a hotel.
