ActivityIain MacNab of Barachastlain (1890-1967), painter and engraver, was born in the Philippines, the son of John McNab, Hongkong and Shanghai Bank. He was educated at Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh. He served in the Army 1914-1916 and the RAF 1942-1945, and married the professional dancer Helen Mary Tench (Helen Wingrave).McNab was Hereditary Armourer and Standard Bearer to The McNab of McNab. He became Joint-Principal of the Heatherley School of Art, 1919-1925; Principal of the Grosvenor School of Art, 1925-1940; Director of Art Studies, Heatherley School of Art, 1946-1953. He was Honorary Auditor Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers; Fellow of the National Society of Painters, Sculptors and Engravers and of the Society of Wood Engravers; President of the Royal Institute of Painters in Oils; and Chairman of the Imperial Arts League.
