ActivityMary Stewart (Florence Elinor) was born on 17 September 1916 in the United Kingdom. Her maiden name was Rainbow. Stewart's first novel, 'Madam, Will You Talk?' was published in 1955 and she went on to write many more that became best-sellers in the United Kingdom and abroad. Most of her books are suspense novels but one of her most popular novels was 'The Crystal Cave' (1970) a re-telling of the Arthurian legend. The success of this led her to write two more, 'The Hollow Hills' (1973) and 'The Last Enchantment' (1979), in which Stewart combined fantasy writing with meticulous research.
