ActivityGeorge Murray Reith was born in 1863 and educated at Aberdeen University from where he received an MA in 1884, and at New College, Edinburgh. After assisting at Dundee McCheyne Memorial he was ordained by the Free Church Presbytery of London and inducted to Singapore in 1889, and, returning to Scotland, to St Cuthbert’s United Free Church, Edinburgh in 1898. He resigned from the latter in 1911 when the congregation united with Dean Street and then held a short term ministry at Cumbernauld Baird from 1916 to 1917. Reith married Mary McNeill, the daughter of Reverence John Sharp Bowie, in 1907 and the couple had four sons. He was the author of numerous articles and several books, including a 'Handbook to Singapore' (1892) and 'A Padre in partibus' (1897). He died in 1948.
