ActivityHamish Brown was born in 1934 in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and educated abroad and at Dollar Academy, Scotland. After completing his National Service with the RAF and a period as an assistant at the Martyrs' Memorial Church, Paisley, he was appointed to direct the outdoor education programme at Braehead School, Fife. He has been a keen participant in all outdoor sports and led expeditions world-wide in mountaineering, trekking, skiing and canoeing. He has lived in Japan and South Africa, travelled extensively in Europe, and walked and climbed all over Scotland - most notably in his 112-day walk over all the Munros. He is perhaps best known for his books on mountains and walking in Scotland but he also published poetry, stories and articles, often drawing on material collected in the communities of the hills and mountains of Scotland. He is also a keen photographer. He lives in Kinghorn, Fife.
