ActivityThe Scottish National Dictionary Association (SNDA), a registered charity, was founded in 1929 with the aim of promoting the use of the Scots language and in particular to produce a standard dictionary of Scots. In 1976, after many years work, a 10 volume Scottish National Dictionary was completed, with subsequent volumes published at intervals since then. The SND covers the period from 1700 to the present; the 12th - 17th centuries are covered by the Dictionary of the Older Scottish Tongue. The SNDA continues (2002) to aim to bring its work to a wider public. The first edition of the Concise Scottish Dictionary was produced in 1985, dictionaries for schools have been published, and electronic publications are increasing. An ongoing Word Collection project aims to keep the dictionaries up to date.
