ActivityThe North-Eastern Fire Board, established in 1948, was to replace locally the National Fire Brigade which had been founded during the Second World War. It covered Aberdeen City and the counties of Aberdeen, Banff, Kincardine, Moray and Nairn. In England and Wales each county became a Fire Authority, but in Scotland eleven Fire Areas were established, and the new Fire Brigade, now known as the North-Eastern Fire Brigade, covered 3,500 square miles and had thirty-eight strategically-placed fire stations.
