ActivityThe Forfar poet, John Nevay, was born in 1792, the son of a manufacturer who brought him up to the weaving trade. His first book, 'Emmanuel', was published in 1831. This was followed in 1834 and 1835 with 'The Peasant' and 'The Child of Nature' and in 1844 by the novelette 'Mary Hepburn'. In 1853 another volume of poems entitled 'Rosaline's Dream' was published. Forfar Portrait Gallery describes him as 'never what you would call popular'. He corresponded with a wide range of literary figures of the day. John Nevay died in 1870.
