ActivityPeter Reid was born in Forfar in 1803 and was famous for his rock from which he made his fortune. His confectionery business operated from 51 Castle Street, Forfar. In his later life he became known as a philanthropist and in 1869 he gifted to the people of Forfar a town hall and later provided public conveniences, rest chairs in the Common Myre and a convalescent ward at the Infirmary. He died in 1897, aged 94. His trademark is now in the name of his successor, James Chapman.
