ActivityFrancis Cooper, born around 1824, was an official of the Corporation of Aberdeen, and brother of the Reverend Dr Charles Cooper, Professor of Moral Philosophy in Madras. He attended shorthand classes in Aberdeen in 1845 taught by Mr Ben Pitman, the brother of Sir Isaac Pitman, the inventor of the system. Francis Cooper later taught shorthand himself by the same system, not only to classes but also to his son Charles, who afterwards became a journalist. Francis Cooper was an active member of Trinity Free Church in Aberdeen, and enjoyed hill-walking and swimming. He died in Aberdeen in 1907.
