ActivityRanald W. M. Clouston, MBE, was born in Lavenham, Suffolk in 1925. His parents were doctors and the family moved to Kent when Clouston was 12. He graduated with a BSc in Engineering, and was a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. He was living in Radlett, Hertfordshire in 1965, but by 1997 had moved to Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk. Clouston had a keen interest in local history but he is best known for his knowledge of campanology. He published several works on church bells in the south of England and in Ayrshire. He was also Bells and Clocks Consultant to the Council for the Care of Churches. He was related to the Clouston family of Orkney.
