ActivitySir John Charles Ogilvie Grant, Baronet, seventh Earl of Seafield, Viscount Reidhaven and first Baron Strathspey of Strathspey (1815-1881) was the third son of Colonel Sir Francis William Grant, Baronet, sixth Earl of Seafield (1778-1853) and Mary Anne Dunn (1795-1840), daughter of John Charles Dunn of Higham House, Sussex. He was born on 4th September 1814 and entered the Navy. In 1853 he succeeded his father as seventh Earl of Seafield and in 1858 was created Baron Strathspey of Strathspey in the peerage of the United Kingdom by Queen Victoria (1819-1901) and in 1879 was invested with the Order of the Thistle. He was a keen breeder of Highland cattle and was interested in Highland Games, pipes and dress. His residences were Cullen House, Castle Grant in Strathspey and Balmacaan in Glenurquhart. He married Caroline Stewart, daughter of the eleventh Lord Blantyre, and died in 1881 following illness. He was succeeded by his only son, Sir Ian Charles Grant-Ogilvie, Baronet, eighth Earl of Seafield (1851-1884).
