ActivityThe Lochbroom District Nursing Association was formed in 1916 under the initiative of Lochbroom Parish Council in order to provide nursing for the Parish of Lochbroom. The Association employed two nurses and provided all equipment required. The nurse worked under the supervision of the medical officer of health. Patients paid for their nursing services and for the board and travel of the nurse. Free nursing was provided where considered necessary. Funds were also obtained from patrons and voluntary donations and the Association was subsidised by the Scottish Board of Health. The appointment of qualified nurses was deferred until 1920 due to the demand for nurses occasioned by World War I. Under the National Health Services (Scotland) Act, 1948, Ross and Cromarty County Council became responsible for the provision of domiciliary and midwifery nursing services. The Lochbroom District Nursing Association continued to operate until 1950.
