ActivityBonar Long and Co. Ltd, electrical plant manufacturers, Dundee, was formed by Tom Long and Henrik Rissik in 1936. They leased part of the factory of Low and Bonar, a jute merchanting company, in Princes Street, Dundee, from George Bonar, managing director. Rissik, Long and Co. Ltd was registered on 2 November 1936 and George Bonar became chairman. Rissik resigned in 1937and the name of Bonar Long and Co. was registered. In 1938 George Bonar died and his son Herbert Bonar became a director and chairman of the company. Tom Long became managing director of the company. During the Second World War part of the factory was used as a training school for women learning to be capstan lathe turners for munitions factories. By 1945 200 people were employed in the factory and in 1948 the company moved to a new factory on East Kingsway, Dundee. In 1951 the company of Low and Bonar took a controlling interest in the company. In 1958 a large factory extension was erected and in 1961 the company celebrated its 25th anniversary. In 1986 the company celebrated 50 years and was sold to Danish company National Industri.
