| Administrative History | There have always been recreational activities at the University and a cricket club is recorded at Marischal College in 1849, there was a shinty club at King's College with the official club forming in 1861 and the football club formed in 1872. The Athletic Association was officially formed in 1889. This structure existed for over 100 years but in the academic year of 1998-1999, the Presidents of the Students’ Representative Council, Union Management Committee and Athletic Association began to address the issue of co-operation and common interests between the three organisations. As a result, in 1999 the Athletics Association became part of The Students Association and became known as the Sports Council. In 2002 it became The Sports Union. |
