Title | Slide showing a chart which demonstrates the amount of carbon dioxide taken up by a given volume of blood. |
Date | Late 19th - early 20th century |
Extent | 1 slide |
Description | Slide shows a chart which demonstrates the amount of carbon dioxide taken up by a given volume of blood. The chart has two curves labelled 'reduced blood' (upper curve) and 'oxygenated blood' (lower curve). The 'x' axis is labelled 'pressure of CO2 in mm. Hg.', the 'y' axis is labelled 'volume of CO2 absorbed by 100 volumes of blood'. The labels, although printed, appear to be handwritten. Label below chart reads: 'Fig 21 - Curves relating the amount of CO2 taken up by a given volume of blood to CO2 pressure, showing that oxygenated blood takes up less CO2 and that therefore oxygenation has made the blood more acid (after J. S. Haldane).' |
