Description | Slide shows a photograph of a hand belonging to a sufferer of 'Pituitary Acromegaly'. Title appears on handwritten label at top of slide. Label below image reads 'Fig. 154. - typical hand of acromegalic. (Cushing.) Notice the broad palm and digits and the relatively small nails, which lack lunulae.' Lunula is the whitish area seen of the bed of fingernails and toenails. Acromegaly occurs when excess growth hormone (hGH) is produced by the pituitary gland. |
