The diagrams are labelled 'A - Nucula' and 'B - typical Eulamellibranch' with other labelling and corresponding explanation below as follows: 'Fig. 9. Diagrams showing division of mantle cavity into inhalent (I.C.) and exhalent chambers (E.C.) by the gills (G) in A Nucula and B a typical Eulamellibranch. Direction of water current indicated by arrows passing through gills, direction of food streams by arrows on surface of gills, forwardly directed streams to mouth indicated by X.
