Filaria is a parasitic roundworm that lives in human beings and animals. It is chiefly found in Asia, Central Africa and the Southwest Pacific.
Label above image reads, 'Copied by permission from Atlas of Bacteriology by Slater & Spitta, Newton & Co. 3 Fleet Street London'. Newton & Co were described as 'Opticians and Globe Makers to the Queen, 1861- 85', having succeeded Newton & Son (John and William Newton) from premises in Chancery Lane, London.
