Administrative HistoryIn 1906, the University celebrated its Quatercentenary (strictly this should have been celebrated in 1895) culminating with the conclusion of its ambitious Buildings Extension Scheme (1892 - 1906). The magnificent new building at Marischal, designed by the Aberdeen architect Alexander Marshall Mackenzie, was opened by King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra during a state visit to Aberdeen.
Custodial HistoryThese addresses were preserved in an oak cabinet presented by Mr D. R. Thom, prior to their removal and re-housing in 2004.
DescriptionAddresses presented to the University of Aberdeen by other universities, colleges and learned societies in recognition of the 400th anniversary celebrations held in 1906. The addresses are in a variety of languages, and are in either book or roll format. Unless otherwise indicated, the addresses listed are transcribed in P.J. Anderson's published record of the Quatercentenary Celebrations, 1906, Appendix G.
