Administrative HistoryHISTORY

The Free Church College and Practising School was situated on the site of the 1828 monitorial school on Charlotte Street. In terms of ethos and curriculum it was modelled on its Church of Scotland counterpart. In 1904 expansion led to a new practising school on John Street, and this site would be retained as a Demonstration school until 1970. When the Aberdeen Provinicial Committee (established in 1905) replaced the 'Committee of Management' in both church colleges, the decision was taken to build around the Free Church properties as the site for the new 'training college'.
