Description | These cards appear to relate to a non-student body of subjects. Most are in their mid - late twenties, many of the females are married women and several were pregnant when surveyed. They may have been selected for a specific study, possibly relating to the physical characteristics of people belonging to the North East of Scotland (in general, birth place is not recorded on the cards - in the few instances that it is, it refers to towns and cities out-with this general region, and the card is asterisked in red).
Biographical details and physical descriptions are sparse - generally, names and dates of birth are the only details recorded in this section - and there are no photographs or finger prints. All of the standard physical measurements are recorded (head, height, limb, nose and ear dimensions) and a supplementary record sheet has been pasted on the back of each card recording nasion-alveolus, chin-occipit, height (suprasternal), width (bitrochanteric), length (foot), length (left cubit).
Male cards are numbered from 4 - 66 and female cards from 3 - 60. There is no obvious order to the numbering system. |
