Title | Letter from Sir John Gilmour (1876 - 1940) MP to F.G. Thomson, Aberdeen, regarding supply of bodies from Perth Poorhouse to the Universities of Aberdeen and Glasgow |
Date | 24 May 1928 |
Extent | 2 leaves |
Description | Letter sent in response to correspondence from F.G. Thomson of 2nd and 16th April 1928. Gilmour acknowledges the shortage of bodies for medical research in Scotland and describes manner in which this has been addressed by Government Departments and the Inspector of Anatomy, with specific reference to guidance notes prepared in 1919 recognising that each medical school in Scotland had a distinct area of supply, with supplies from other areas being distributed by the Inspector of Anatomy according to need.
A question had arisen regarding the supply of bodies from Perth Poorhouse, which had from 1919 been sent to Aberdeen, but in recent years went to Glasgow, which had experienced a temporary shortage of bodies. Aberdeen appears to have considered the 1919 arrangements to be permanent, but Gilmour confirmed that this was not so and that bodies from Perthshire Poorhouse would be allocated according to need and may be sent to Aberdeen or any other of the Scottish training schools. |
