Administrative History | Charles Gordon was born in 1847 and succeeded his father as Marquis of Huntly in 1863. He served as JP and DL for Aberdeen County and as honorary Colonel of the 7th Battalion Gordon Highlanders. He was an antiquarian and writer, and took considerable interest in Aberdeen University: he was awarded an honorary LL.D. there and was elected Rector in 1890, 1893 and 1896. He married twice, and at his death in 1937 he was succeeded by his great nephew.The papers were presented by Joseph Rowe who was on the committee. |
