The top two cells demonstrate the characteristics 'yellow round' and 'green wrinkled'; the diagram proceeds into the second part showing the segregation of 'gametes' and their fertilisation in level F1. F2 is a square showing the diversity of results of the crossing of the male and female 'gametes' which are as follows: '9 yellow round, 3 yellow wrinkled, 3 green round, 1 green wrinkled.'
