DescriptionCollection of folk songs and airs sent to James Bruce Duncan by his brother G.F. Duncan, Glasgow, as recollected from the singing of their parents or servants and as recorded in a volume compiled by their mother. Accompanied by covering letters sent with batches material; certain contributions are written in shorthand and these have been left in the order in which they appear in a list prefixed to them by James Bruce Duncan; covering letters have been listede together before the groups of songs; for other correspondence between the brothers, see MSS. 998/16/72-79.

MS.998/7/4/5-15 (dated 1905-6) features Words and music of folk songs as sent by G.F. Duncan to his brother, J.B.d.; words are written in some cases in shorthand and are accompanied with comment; listed according to note of contents prefaced by J.B.D.; the music has apparently been transcribed elsewhere.

MS.998/7/4/16-52 (dated 1905-6) features collection of words and music of folk songs, mostly as copied by G.F. Duncan from MS. volume of songs noted down by him from his mother's dictation and sent to J.B.D.; written mainly in pencil, with additional notes in shorthand; the songs have been listed alphabetically.
