Administrative History | George Ritchie Kinloch was born at Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, around 1796 and was educated to follow the legal profession. His principal interest was in antiquities, particularly antiquarian ballads, and he became assistant keeper of the Register of Deeds in Edinburgh in 1842, rising to keeper in 1851. He edited several collections of ballads, most notably ‘Ancient Scottish Ballads’ in 1827, and other material. He retired in 1869 and died in 1877. |
