TitleAntoinette Bourignon, religious ascetic and writer: 'Antichrist Discovered'
Date17th century
Extent0.04 linear metres
Creator NameBourignon; Antoinette (1616-1680); religious ascetic and writer.
Administrative HistoryAntoinette Bourignon was born in Lille, in France, in 1616. She was ascetically religious and tried to join several religious communities of different kinds. However, she found it difficult to become accepted by them, and turned against religious institutions generally. She believed herself to be destined to be a reformer, but her work received very varied reactions. She wrote widely but inconsistently (on such topics as Virtue and the Antichrist), and was particularly well thought of in Scotland. Her doctrines were denounced there after her death, which occurred in the Netherlands in 1680.
SourceThe manuscript was probably acquired by the library after 1860 and before 1910.
