Administrative HistoryLittle is known about William Orem but that he was Conjunct Clerk of Old Aberdeen in 1691 and that he is thought to have died in 1725. A William Orem graduated MA in 1697. He is known for 'Description of the Chanonry, King’s College and the Cathedral in Old Aberdeen' in the years 1724 and 1725 which was available for many years in manuscript form before it was published in 1791 and again in 1830.

Aberdeen was created a Royal Burgh by David I (1124 - 1153). Nearby Old Aberdeen was created a Burgh of Barony in 1498. The Chanonry in Old Aberdeen was the site of the original cathedral precinct.
