TitlePapers of David Skene: Volume of copy correspondence of David Skene: Copy letter from Carolus Linnaeus to David Skene
Date21 January 1766
Extent1 item
Creator NameDavid Skene (1731 - 1770), M.D., of Aberdeen
DescriptionCopy letter from Carolus Linnaeus to David Skene in reply to Skene's letter of 16 December 1765. He states that he welcomes the views of others and that his assertions are based only on his own observations and therefore are not necessarily secure. He believes that nerves form the difference between plants and animals and discusses how animals obtain nutrients. He believes that the little flowers of zoophytes are alive as they move voluntarily to draw nutrients to them. He suggests that if Skene's views were proved to be true, he may want his letters inscribed to the Royal Scientific Society of Uppsala, 21 January 1766.
