Administrative HistoryStatutory Instruments 1972 No. 1542 OFFSHORE INSTALLATIONS The Offshore Installations (Logbooks and Registration of Death) Regulations 1972. The regulations requiring a logbook to be maintained on every offshore installation came into operation on the 30 November 1972. Entries were to be made "regarding every occurrence affecting or likely to affect the safety of the installation or the safety, health and welfare of persons on or working from the installation or involving the installation and endangering persons in its neighbourhood...".
DescriptionOfficial logbooks for the Murchison platform, completed and signed by the Offshore Installation Manager and submitted to the Department of Energy as required under the Mineral Workings (Offshore Installations) Act 1971 and the Offshore Installations (Logbooks and Registration of Death) Regulations 1972.

The log books record official details relating to the platform's activities, including weather, personnel on board (POB) numbers, helicopter and vessel movements, safety actions, production and drilling operations, and major works. The logbooks cover the period between 16 December 1979 and 15 February 1995, but with some periods missing - check the catalogue for details. The logbooks cease in February 1995, a few weeks after operatorship of the Murchison platform transferred from Conoco to Oryx.
