Administrative HistoryBain (XIII, Minutes and Accounts) notes: "There is no earlier minute book or account book of the Hospital than that which commenced on the sixth day of September 1719 and concluded 9th November 1883. [...] The earliest meeting of the Managers recorded is that of sixth May 1719. It was attended by Mr George Chalmers, Principal of King's College, Mr Alexander Fraser, Sub-Principal, and Mr Alexander Mitchell, minister of the Gospel in Old Aberdeen, who are therein designated 'Overseers of the Hospital in Old Aberdeen'. At this meeting, they audited the accounts of James Panton, factor to the Hospital, from the year 1707, and thereafter appointed William Smith, minister of the Gospel in Old Aberdeen, to be Master and Factor of the Hospital in room of James Panton.

"On the 15th day of November 1726 an arrangement was made between the Masters of the Hospital and John Robertson, executor of John Greig, and patron under a mortification of £1000 Scots left by John Greig to the Hospital, by which John Robertson was to present a beadsman. (See minute of same date in Minute Book and copy of charter obtained from King's College and engrossed in the Chartulary of the Hospital.) This is perhaps the origin of the right of presentation at one time enjoyed by Mr Robertson of Foveran."

Elsewhere (notes on Bundle XII, which is no longer present) Bain states: "There are no minutes in the Minute Book from 17th April 1764 to 4th December 1800."
DescriptionThe minute book of the Trustees of Bishop Dunbar’s Hospital begins in 1884 and no earlier minute books now exist among the Hospital's papers.
