Administrative HistoryWalter Henry Ogston (b.1873), son of Sir Alexander Ogston, married Josephine Elizabeth Carter (1886-1962) on 16 December 1909 and they had six children together: Sandy, Flora, Elizabeth, Walter, Josephine and Janet.

Walter Ogston joined the firm of Killick Nixon in 1890 and moved to the company's Bombay offices as a partner in 1906. He met Josephine in 1904 while on leave and in September 1908 returned again on leave to propose marriage to her. He then returned to India for a year during which time they corresponded regularly. After their marriage in England on the 16 December 1909 they both lived in India, and Josephine corresponded regularly with her mother Alice Jane Carter (nee Cadenhead) in England. Two of their six children, Sandy and Flora, were born in India.

They visited England for an extended stay in April 1912, returning to India towards the end of the year. They again returned to the UK in Spring 1914, staying at Aboyne for the summer. Walter Ogston went back to India for a year while his family stayed in Kensington in London, finally returning to the UK in October 1915 when he started work with a different firm in Liverpool with connections to Killick Nixon. He became involved in the war effort as a Railway Transportation Officer working at the Liverpool Docks, for which he received the OBE in 1920 [see www.abdn.ac.uk/library/roll-of-honour/].
