Administrative HistoryHelen Mallock (née Ogston) was the sister of Sir Alexander Ogston. She died on the 11 January 1873.

Helen was Alexander Ogston's younger sister. On the 11 January 1872 she married a doctor, Archibald Edward Mallock from Brockville Ontario. Helen was 23 and Archibald 27. They were married at Burnside House that had been the home of James Hargrave (1798-1865), father of Mary-Jane Hargrave who married Alexander Ogston. The house must have been still occupied by James' widow, Margaret Alcock (d. 1899).

Dr. Malloch completed his medical degree at the University of Glasgow in 1867 and during his time there had studied under Joseph Lister. The depositor believes that it was through this connection that he met Helen. Why they got married in Brockville is unclear but it is possible Helen was visiting Brockville and they met there. There seems to be no mention of the wedding and anyone travelling from Scotland to attend.

After they got married, they moved to Hamilton Ontario where Malloch set up a practice with his brother-in-law. He was one of the very first North American doctors to use the carbolic spray which he had learned under Lister. Alexander Ogston was of course also a follower of Lister's techniques.

Helen Malloch died in childbirth in Hamilton on January 5th, 1873, as did her infant son.
