DescriptionRed notebook containing diary entries beginning 1 June 1824. Refers to daily activities including walks to Leith, reading of medical texts and visits to Grayfriar's Church on a Sunday. There are numerous references to 'London dissection'; on the 24 June he notes: "Completed the study of the muscles in the London dissection". He also refers to numerous examinations he has taken on a variety of subjects including anatomy and chemistry. On the 14 July he records: "Wait on the President of the College of Surgeons with my tickets and receive from him a letter to the Examinations for the 20th of this month. Pay to the Secretary of the College the Fees for a diploma being £5.11.1". On the 2 August he notes that he received his diploma at his graduation ceremony before the Medical Faculty. He leaves Edinburgh on the 4 August and departs Aberdeen for London on board the [Nimrod?] smack on the 10th [mentions fellow travellers Mr and Mrs Copland] and refers to acquiring a passport for France and Holland while in London. The entries end on the 20 August [1824].

Printed subscription to The New Sydenham Society enclosed dated 28 February 1866.

At the back of the volume are detailed notes, not dated (with sketch) on an experiment entitled "Requirements for Rabbits to determine the effects of Alcohol in Poisonous iluses" [ileum - part of small intestine].
