DescriptionDavid Skene, Monboddo (Kincardine), to Andrew Skene in which he describes seeing Mr. Young cutting for stone in the Infirmary: he describes the operation in detail and states that the patient, who was a healthy 11 or 12 year old boy, died 3 days later; he also describes seeing Mr Lauder extirpate a schirrous testicle ('I own I thought the whole operation indifferent'); he refers to an 'unusuall species of anginas prevalent in Edinburgh this winter' which he describes as affecting the larynx and often causing suppuration and sometimes gangrene before the patient knows he is ill; the price of Ol: Rhod: has increased to 18 shillings per oz; Mrs Lauder, his father's patient, is pretty well, 2 May 1752.
