Description | Letter from Archibald Grant, London, to David Skene regarding the provisions which were made for George Skene in the previous letter; Dr Fordyce and others feared that he would not pass the examination looking as young as he did and without experience as a mate, thought he might lose both the mate's position he had been offered and the surgency; George Skene has accepted the mateship and now lacks money; he has loaned him 10 guineas with letters for ship's stores and has given security to enable him to have £150; he asks David Skene for a letter to indemnify him for the £150, 5 December 1769. |
