This letter is written during the long aftermath of the Disruption of 1843 which saw the splitting of the Church of Scotland and the creation of the Free Church. Cumming was an outspoken defender of the Established Church.
Description
In this letter Cumming seeks to address what he feels is unfair portrayal of the Church of Scotland and its liturgy by the Times.
