Administrative HistoryAlongside his core teaching work in the Department of Anatomy, Reid devised and delivered a range of informal lectures in anatomy and anthropology for members of the public and local groups. He also conducted occasional guided tours of the Anthropologcal Museum for interested parties.
DescriptionThis series contains details of public lectures in anatomy delivered by Reid to local clubs, societies and other groups, including Aberdeen Philosophical Society, Aberdeen Working Men's Natural History Society and the prisoners at Craiginches Prison, Aberdeen, c 1891 - 1921. Most files in the series include Reid's own annotated lecture notes (often re-worked for different audiences) and newspaper reports containing detailed accounts of his lectures, including reference to the size and composition of his audiences. Related papers include letters of thanks and sylabii of some of the groups to whom he spoke.

For the 'Popular Lecture in Anatomy' series there are also advertising posters, examples of examination papers and 'certificates of merit' awarded to students successfully completing the exam and letters of thanks from some of these students.

Lectures for Reid's anthropological and archaeological lectures have not survived with his other papers, however, newspaper reports of a few of these for the period 1908 - 1912 exist and are listed here under reference MS 3753/2/8.
ArrangementThe series is arranged chronologically, by lecture or lecture series.
